43North Startup Competition 2016 is the largest annual startup competition in the world. The 43North Startup Competition 2016 offers $5 million in cash prizes each year to some of the best and brightest entrepreneurs and the most innovative startups from around the globe.
In addition to cash, 43North winners receive incubator space, expert mentorship, marketing exposure and ten years of freedom from state taxes. And beyond that, they win access to the resources, infrastructure, and people of a city where remarkable things are happening – Buffalo, NY.
43North will award additional $400,000 in funding among the 2016 winning startups that stand out the most during their first year in Buffalo.
The competition started in 2014 to promote entrepreneurship, and now its first class of 11 winning teams is rolling up their sleeves and getting to work in a new incubator in Buffalo, NY. 43North isn’t just an annual competition – it’s also a business incubator. Located downtown on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, 43North is a busy hub of the new BUFFALO economy. And it’s a great place to get things started.

43North Startup Competition 2016 is part of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative, which is driving new economic opportunities throughout Buffalo and Western New York. The competition operates through the support of the New York Power Authority and the Buffalo Billion initiative.
Judging Criteria
- The overall strength of team
- Team’s knowledge of market
- A rating of the viability of the product/service/technology
- The product relative to the target market
- Revenue and financing plans
- Overall assessment of the opportunity
Eligibility
43North is open to applicants ages 18 and older from anywhere in the world, in any industry, with the exception of bricks-and-mortar retail and hospitality. Is your startup scalable with the potential for aggressive growth? Now we’re talking!
Prizes
$5 million in cash prizes: one $1 million grand prize, one $600,000 prize, six $500,000 prizes and additional $400,000 bonus prize.
Money is only the start
Winners also receive incubator space for a year, mentorship, tons of marketing exposure and access to START-UP NY, which offers freedom from state taxes for 10 years.
43North is open to applicants ages 18 and over, from anywhere in the world, in any industry, other than retail and hospitality. Submit your application by May 31, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
