HSBC Career Opportunities

HSBC is one of the world’s leading banks, with a network covering 71 countries and territories.

The company offers a range of opportunities for students and graduates, from work experience and apprenticeships to internships, global graduate programmes and entry-level positions.

HSBC employs, develops and promotes employees based on merit and provide a supportive and inclusive working environment.

HSBC has access to many of the world’s major trade and capital flows and a leading position in many high-growth markets. Within these markets, they serve our customers through four global businesses: Commercial Banking, Global Banking and Markets, Global Private Banking, Retail Banking and Wealth Management. These businesses are supported by a range of operational and functional teams.

School or college students

If you are still at school or college, HSBC offers work-experience programmes in some countries. If you are about to or have just left school or college, HSBC has a range of local opportunities including apprenticeships and entry-level positions.

HSBC’s business language is English. For the student and graduate programmes you will need to speak English fluently, however, for some of the local entry-level roles, this may not be the case. It’s not always necessary to speak the local language of the office you are applying to. If the local (or any other) language is required, this will be outlined in the role advertisement/job description.

You don’t need to have finance/business-related degree to work at HSBC. The company seeks to recruit students from all academic degree disciplines for their programmes.

University students and graduates

For students who are at university or who have graduated, there are a number of options. You could join one of the local internships or country-specific programmes or apply for entry-level roles such as a customer service adviser or business analyst.

HSBC also offers internships for penultimate-year students to give them an insight into the global graduate programmes. HSBC internship and global graduate programmes develop the most talented students and graduates to be the future leaders of the company.

HSBC approach

Wherever you join HSBC, the company will provide the support, tools and opportunities for you to develop and thrive. HSBC aims to be dependable, open and connected to everything they do.

The company encourages it’s employees to stand up for what is right, highlight potential risks and act with integrity at all times. To make sure everybody at HSBC lives up to these values, they form part of annual performance review.

HSBC approach to working together is to connect with the difference, embracing a variety of ideas and perspectives. They think it is important to have a diverse workforce and leadership team. This helps the company respond to the needs of the customers and develop better products and services.

HSBC assesses and manages the social and environmental impact of our decisions, including the efficiency of our operations, our buildings and IT systems and the way we travel. The company invests significantly in community projects such as education programmes and partnerships. Employees are encouraged to volunteer for these and other activities.
