CNN is looking for its next bright internship stars.

As one of the world’s news leader, CNN is interested in creative and energetic people with diverse perspectives and talents.

CNN is looking for CNN’s future: people with fresh ideas, innovative viewpoints, a willingness to work hard, and a commitment to the highest standards of journalism.

At CNN central London bureau CNN offers 8 internships spanning from news gathering to special feature programs, digital, and sports.

Interns play an important role in the daily operations of CNN. In fact, many of the current journalists within the London bureau started out as interns.

News Internships

Primary responsibilities include research, fact-checking, transcribing footage, assisting on shoots, contributing story and show ideas, attending planning and creative meetings and sourcing images and footage.

Candidates should be detail-orientated, have strong writing and research skills, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and have the confidence to pitch story ideas and potential guests to show producers.

  • Interview Content Producing & guest booking

The content producing (or planning) internship is right in the heart of the newsroom and central to CNN’s coverage of breaking news stories.

The main role of the planning desk is to find and secure the most compelling, interesting and relevant voices across the world to give insight into the top stories of the day.

The ideal candidate will have an eye for a strong interview idea, excellent organisational skills, good logistical sense (to get guests to the right place at the right time), acute attention to detail, quick to learn, adaptable and overall a great team player.

The planning desk can be fast-paced and intense during breaking news, with periods of downtime which allow for forward planning.

Digital Internships

Responsibilities include research, producing content in the CMS and assisting the team on the homepage and other platforms. There may be opportunities to write.

The successful candidate will have a strong and broad knowledge of international affairs, understand digital journalism (including SEO and social), have a meticulous eye for detail and be able to work under pressure.

These internships are well suited to someone who has recently graduated with a masters in digital journalism and who wants to pursue a career in digital journalism.

  • Motion Graphics

The Motion Graphics intern for Digital Video in London will assist Designers and Producers with graphics and animations for all CNN digital platforms.

The Video Development Group is split into two primary units, focusing on daily turn news & feature content, as well as longer-lead series. This internship position will spend time with both units, creating an opportunity to learn a wide range of skills over the course of the program.

The intern may assist with the following: animate video package elements – including opens, lower thirds, and text on screen – help craft smart and engaging explainer videos, explore sound design and editing in Adobe Premiere, mask photos and rotoscope video, as well as research and asset gathering.

  • Digital Video

CNN is looking for curious, versatile, enthusiastic and proactive candidates with an interest in both news and features content, long and short-form video, with a mixture of technical and editorial skills.

They need to demonstrate both an ability to work under the pressure of news deadlines, along with the thoughtfulness and creativity required for longer-lead features projects.

Previous interns have seen their own ideas published on the site within weeks of joining and have quickly established themselves as an invaluable player on the team.
