OPEC is an intergovernmental development finance institution established in late 20th century by the Member States of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The OPEC Fund for International development is offering an extraordinary grant program for international, national, regional and non-governmental organizations. The highest priority is always given to initiatives that benefit the low-income, least-developed countries. All OFID assistance is earmarked for purposes that contribute to the recipient country’s socio-economic progress. Applying organizations are required to supply the proof of their financial and legal status.

The Application process is simple – the grant applicants are required to accurately fill in an application form and also include with the application form, the registration certificate of their organization. Please note that you can apply only if you are international, national, regional and non-governmental.

Individuals, private entities cannot apply for this grant program. Also, applications are not accepted from OFID Member States being Algeria, Ecuador, Gabon, Indonesia, Iraq, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela.

Application documents can be submitted either electronically by sending the application dossier to the following email address grants@ofid.org or via fax. All applications will receive a response from the program.

There is not a specific deadline for this grant application. As the program states:

“Some of the smaller grants in support of research and intellectual pursuits are approved on an ad hoc basis. The larger technical assistance grant proposals are presented at OFID’s Governing Board meetings held four times per year”.
