100&Change 2019

100&Change is a MacArthur Foundation competition for a $100 million grant to fund a single proposal that will make measurable progress toward solving a significant problem. Proposals focused on any critical issue are welcome.

100&Change 2019 will fund a single proposal that promises real and measurable progress in solving a critical problem of our time.

The competition is open to ideas that identify a single problem and its proposed solution. 100&Change welcomes applications from around the world as well as from both nonprofit and for-profit organizations (subject to the rules that govern private foundations).

The initiative hopes to inspire a wide range of applications that propose real, measurable solutions to significant problems from any field or sector.

The 2017 100&Change Finalists demonstrated that solutions are possible for our most pressing problems:

How to Participate

100&Change takes place over a two-year period and includes several stages of evaluation and review.

Discover how well-suited your organization and proposal are for 100&Change. Its organizational readiness tool describes the characteristics of the most competitive organizations.

Register your organization to begin the application process. Any organization or legal entity can apply, subject to eligibility rules. Multiple organizations may collaborate on a single application.

Describe an urgent, significant problem, and propose a bold and lasting solution. Your idea can come from any field or sector, but the solution must be impactful, evidence-based, feasible, and durable.

Each valid application will be scored using a common rubric and will receive feedback from five applicants within the same domain. Based on the rank order of scores, up to 500 applications will move forward.

Up to 500 applications will receive an additional set of five scores and comments from our Wise Head Panel. Based on the rank order of scores, up to 120 applications will receive a technical review.

High-impact ideas designated as the “Top 100” will be named. These applications will receive recognition and support by being featured in our online database of the strongest proposals.

MacArthur’s Board of Directors will select up to ten finalists. These finalists will be invited to work with a team of experts to further develop and strengthen their proposals.

Finalists will work with an expert team to present a preliminary plan for monitoring and evaluation, and learning, and show authentic community engagement before submitting revised proposals.

Selection of the final award recipient rests with MacArthur’s Board of Directors. The $100 million grant must be used to implement the successful applicant’s solution and evaluate progress and impact
