MIDORI Prize 2020

The MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity, an international prize, and the Japan Awards for Biodiversity, a domestic prize, were established with the aim of promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.

They are awarded biennially in recognition of individuals and organizations which have engaged in striking environmental conservation activities.

The MIDORI Prize was established by the AEON Environmental Foundation in 2010 in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Foundation. This year was also the year of the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity.

The engagement and collaboration of all relevant stakeholders, including citizens, governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, researchers and the private sector are essential to safeguard biodiversity.

To promote such multi-stakeholder engagement and collaboration, the MIDORI Prize is open to every stakeholder contributing to conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the field of practical action, science, policy or public awareness.
