Yenching Global Symposium 2017

The Yenching Global Symposium (YGS) brings together people from different fields and across generations with a common interest: China.

Xinnovation
Identity of Innovation in China

The four-day event will comprise engaging speakers and interactive events on the topic of Xinnovation: Identity of Innovation in China.

Under this theme, YGS participants will be challenged to innovate upon the conventional understandings of innovation, and how that will fit into China’s future. This conference will not only feature prominent international scholars and leading young professionals from a wide range of fields but also provide a highly focused, application-based experiential learning platform.

For over a century, Peking University has been the foremost domestic academic setting for understanding China. In 2014, the University founded the Yenching Academy, with the hope of shaping a new generation of global citizens with a nuanced understanding of China and its role in the world.

The Academy’s flagship event, the Yenching Global Symposium, is already one of the most selective conferences held in China and quickly becoming one of the world’s most competitive and highly anticipated conferences.

The 2016 Symposium, with an acceptance rate of 3 percent, received more than 1800 applications from over 130 countries with representation from Rhodes Scholars, Marshall Scholars, Gates Cambridge Scholars, Fulbright Scholars and other major fellowships and leading institutions.

Hosted on the Peking University campus from March 23-26, 2017, the next symposium will be a four-day event consisting of multidisciplinary lectures, panel discussions, site visits, and interactive sessions on Chinese innovation.

It will feature prominent Chinese and international scholars as well as leading professionals who will challenge and expand previously held conceptions about innovation in China.

The Symposium will select and invite approximately 75 students and young professionals to participate in the event as delegates. It will cover all fees associated with the trip—including flights, ground transportation, meals, and accommodation.

Ambitious students and young professionals from around the world are offered the opportunity to go to China and be inspired by a diverse body of global scholars from leading universities, innovation leaders, sharing their passion for social entrepreneurship and speakers from renowned universities, enterprises, and international organisations.

The Symposium is a platform for connecting leaders on China, across generations and between disciplines. It will help connect you with inspiring, like-minded peers as well as leading experts who share your interest in China. These interactions will take place at Peking University, China’s top university.

As a delegate, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences with innovation while collaborating with others to generate fruitful exchange and construct frameworks for action on China’s most challenging issues.
