Fidelity International European Sales and Marketing Internship

Spend valuable time learning how world-class sales and marketing keeps a world-leading asset management firm moving forward.

Fidelity International offers world-class investment solutions and retirement expertise. It is a privately owned, independent company, with the commitment and resources to provide the investment expertise, technology, and service innovation needed to help the clients achieve their financial goals.

Sales and marketing excellence is essential to the continuing growth of the business. Fidelty International sales and marketing teams engage with the clients to develop the right investment, service or product solution for their needs.

They also develop campaign story lines for new investment products and services, tell clients about them, both online and at events, and manage relationships to make sure the company caters to the different needs of its clients.

It’s a varied and fascinating part of Fidelity International to explore it as an intern. So whatever you’re studying, you will be taught the skills and knowledge you need to make the most of your internship. You’ll need intellectual curiosity and the absolute commitment to serving clients that everyone at Fidelity shares.

What you’ll be doing

This is a big opportunity to build your knowledge of the sales, marketing and product businesses, improve your communication skills and possibly spend time working in Continental Europe.

Depending on your availability, the team you join and the projects they’re working on, you’ll either join for an 8-week summer internship or a longer 6- to 12-month placement as part of your degree.

There will be exciting client work to get to grips with, including organising events like Institutional Investment Summit in Asia or Europe. Rest assured, you’ll return to university with an international perspective on sales and marketing in asset management that will set you up for life.

Eligibility

You’ll ideally speak another European language and you’ll definitely be able to build ties with people from a range of business cultures and backgrounds.

Confident, presentable and articulate, you’ll also have good analytical skills. Above all, you’ll be ready to soak up new sales and marketing ideas and concepts and take on whatever responsibility comes your way.

You should also be on track for a 2.1 (or equivalent) in your degree.

Please be advised that for the 2017 programme, there is a particular business requirement for native/fluent German speakers with fluency also in English.

Recruitment process

Online testing

For this programme, you will firstly be required to take an online test that assesses your numerical reasoning skills. If successful, you will go on to take a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and then the Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ). Make it through to the assessment centre and you will be observed against further competencies required to perform in the role. You can prepare for the test here.

Online application

This is your first chance to make an impression. Start by researching the business and the programmes you’re interested in. Why do you want to work at Fidelity, and why you have picked a particular programme? Find out about the clients, services and competitors. Watch company’s video profiles.

As well as background questions, the application form has specific motivation and competency sections which require further thought around the business area you’re applying to. Give it your undivided attention and complete it accurately and in full. You don’t have to do it all in one go – you can save and log in as many times as you want with your username and password.

Telephone interview

If your application is successful, you will be asked to sit a competency-based motivational telephone interview. Lasting 30-45 minutes, it will be carried out by a member of the HR campus recruitment or business teams. They will be looking to find out why you chose your specific business area (and the company), as well as uncovering a bit more about your background and skills, and how you use these day to day.

You will be asked specifically about skills relating to the role, so be sure to re-read the requirements of your chosen programme. It’s worth having a copy of your application to hand for reference too. And be ready to talk about topical financial news issues.

Assesment centre

Make an impression in your telephone interview and you will quickly know whether you’ve made it to the assessment centre. The location and exact format is tailored to your chosen business area but your assessment will involve a mix of business and motivational interviews, a group exercise, a presentation and a business case study exercise.

During the day, you’ll also get to meet the business team, senior managers and current graduates who’ll give you a real feel for what it’s like to work for Fidelity. This is also your chance to decide if the company is right for you, so use it to gain as much information as you can.

Offer

If you’re successful at the assessment centre, you will be offered a place on the graduate programme. You’ll have two weeks from the day you receive your offer to make a decision.

You will have many questions at this stage and the Campus Recruitment Team will be on hand to guide you. You can be assigned a current graduate as a buddy to help with your decision making. Having gone through the process previously, they’ll be well-placed to answer questions and offer advice. Plus they’ll continue to be on hand to support you on your first day and beyond.
