The IBM Sustainability Accelerator actively tackles environmental threats worldwide through its social impact program. Moreover, transitioning to support five organizations with projects addressing climate change, pollution, extreme weather, and more aims to make a tangible difference.
The IBM is looking for nonprofit and governmental organizations with tech-driven projects that could benefit from:
- Hybrid cloud and AI solutions
- Sustainability software
- Data science-enabled insights
- Expert consulting and design services
In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, the IBM Sustainability Accelerator seeks technology-driven projects to bolster more resilient cities. Specifically, projects must concentrate on ensuring cities are safe, sustainable, and resilient in the long term.
Selection process for The IBM Sustainability Accelerator
The selection process starts with a public RFP open to any nonprofit or government organization. Proposals are then reviewed, evaluated, and vetted through a standard IBM compliance process.
IBM’s experts will be invited to input their opinions from IBM Consulting, Research, Software, Corporate Environmental Affairs, and Corporate Social Responsibility.
The selection criteria will also consider the applicant’s level of support to communities especially vulnerable to environmental threats. Moreover, projects need to be feasible, transparent, and have a considerable impact.
Projects will be selected and announced at the end of 2024. IBM will support each chosen organization for up to two years, providing technology, resources, and expertise.

IBM collaborates with different organizations to create, build, and implement solutions that benefit communities directly. Throughout the program, it gives access to tools like Watsonx, IBM Cloud, IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite, and Red Hat open-source technologies. In addition, they offer guidance and support to help build long-term skills.
