The Africa Institute is inviting creative writers, novelists, short story writers, playwrights, poets, and scriptwriters to join their residency program. Perfect candidates need to have their work related to Africa and the African diaspora.

Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship is a three-month cohort that typically begins in the fall and offers a grant of 45,000 AED.

Honoring the late Nigerian Professor Tejumola Olaniyan, this program celebrates his profound insights into the realms of English and African Cultural Studies. His research not only gained global acclaim but also played a pivotal role in shaping the discourse on African literature, criticism, and post-cultural studies.

Application details for the Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship

Projects can be in Arabic or English, with other languages considered. They should be ready for completion within the residency’s timeframe. Moreover, the Africa Institute’s publications program will publish the winning projects.

Applications must include: 

  • CV/resume of the applicant;
  • A two-page narrative of the project to be undertaken during the residency period, its significance, and a proposed date of completion;
  • A sample of published or unpublished writings.

Once you have everything ready, compile it into a single PDF file with the name in the following format: TOCWRP_LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME. Use the same name in the email subject and send your application to applications@theafricainstitute.org.

Applications will undergo a rigorous review process led by a committee of esteemed peers, comprising renowned writers with a deep appreciation for African literary traditions. Recipients will be selected based on the excellence of their proposals and the practicality of their completion within the program.
