AlphaGamma Startups Overview is a monthly overview that attempts to identify promising startups that have the potential to make a difference in their industries.
Here are our picks for October 2016.
AlphaGamma Startups Overview:
Pearltrees – France
Pearltrees is a French startup that helps its users collect URLs, photos, and files from around the internet and then sort them into interests.
The technical term for an organised collection of everything you like is an “interest graph”. Facebook has similar functions called Facebook Graph, but Pearltrees is trying to use that technology to connect you with what you like in a smarter way. It can sort your favourite music and films, recommending new interests to you.
Onefootball – Germany
Onefootball is a mobile app that brings together news, polls, scores, and rumours about football all in one place. Football fans tend to eat up any information about the sport, and sure enough, the company has seen over 20 million users sign up to the platform.
“We are crazy about football. That’s why we created the best mobile football platform for fans around the world. Whether you’re looking for the latest scores and news or want to connect with your football mates, Onefootball makes it happen.”
FindFace – Russia
FindFace is a service that can search for VK.com accounts on the base of a portrait photo of a person. 30 search attempts are free, then you’ll have to pay.
FindFace is ostensibly meant to help people make friends. The logic is that if you have a photo of someone, you can find their social media profiles, and learn more about them before trying to become friendly with them; it’s a business model based on a second degree Facebook stalking, which is definitely not creepy at all.
Mobirise – the Netherlands
Mobirise is an offline app for Windows and Mac to easily create websites, landing pages, online resumes and portfolios, as well as promo sites for apps, events, services and products.
Mobirise is perfect for non-techies who are not familiar with the intricacies of web development and for designers who prefer to work as visually as possible, without struggling with code. Also, great for pro-coders for fast prototyping and small customers’ projects.
Hassle – the UK
HASSLE.com, an online cleaning marketplace that matches time-strapped working professionals with local, trusted and fully-vetted home cleaners.
“Our mission is clear: be simple, reliable, and Hassle-free. We exist to give time back to busy people, allowing them to free up their time to focus on better things in life, such as spending time with their friends and family or just having an extra hour or three to relax during the week.”
Kiosked – Finland
Founder: Micke Paqvalén, Antti Pasila
Year founded: 2010
Kiosked is one of the world’s leading in-content advertising platforms that drives increased views and relevancy of ads. They do this by turning publishers’ content into unique targeted ad placements based on contextual and behavioral data, and by providing on the spot purchasing opportunities.
“It’s an honor to have been chosen as one of the most promising startups in Finland. At the moment Kiosked is growing fast and at the end of last year, our business really started to expand and scale by winning over key publishers in the U.S., Europe and in Southeast Asia. Digital marketing and specifically advertising is moving rapidly towards 100% programmatic, and our value is that we can provide the industry with a leading and smart platform for that.”
Journiapp – Austria
A Vienna-based startup which provides you with the easiest way to record your trips offline and on the go. Journi, which was founded in 2014, even lets you keep your friends in the loop without extra effort and free of charge. Think of the Journi app as your personal travel journal or even your travel blog if you like.
You can take photos and notes, and Journi automatically connects them with the locations and creates your trip route, making it easy for you to remember all the places you’ve visited. Journi makes your life easier during and after your travel ventures.
DiscussIdea – India
If you are new to the world of entrepreneurship, DiscussIdea will be your source of inspiration for new business ideas. The aim of the platform is to create a community where entrepreneurs can share and explore new ideas to make money as a business owner.
“We created DiscussIdea to help entrepreneurs (or wannabe entrepreneurs) to brainstorm/discuss their business model/ Idea. This will help them in getting better insights from other entrepreneurs.”
Giftluence – the USA
Giftfluence turns your online searching and shopping into charitable donations – for free.
Every year Americans spend over $350 billion through online shopping and search the internet over 200 billion times.
Imagine the impact if just a fraction of the revenue from online activity was donated to charity. Giftfluence turns this vision into a reality by allowing users to donate to over 840,000 charities and student organizations without spending an extra dime.
