Germany is the fourth biggest economy in the world, with a high environmental consciousness, job security, and excellent healthcare.

With a second-highest minimum wage of €2,080 and an average annual wage of over €53,000, Germany is in the top ten highest-paid European countries.

There is a demand for educated employees in the German market. Detlef Scheele, chairman of the Federal Employment Agency, stresses that “Germany is running out of skilled workers.” This trend will likely continue in the upcoming years, meaning more job opportunities and attracting skilled foreign labour to fill positions. As Christian Dürr says in the interview with The Local, “immigration is essential to Germany’s future”.

Do you see yourself as a part of one of the strongest economies in the world? There are several ways to obtain the required permits and start working legally.

To start your career in Germany as a foreigner, you must obtain a work permit.

The citizens of the EU, EEA, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Israel, Japan, Canada, and the USA can enter Germany without a visa and start looking for a job. Everyone else must apply for the Germany Job Seeker Visa before arriving in the country. To be eligible, you must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, at least five years of relevant work experience, and proof of financial stability to cover your stay.

If you already have a job offer from a German employer, apply for a Germany Employment Visa or EU Blue Card for Germany. The second option is for foreigners with a higher education degree from a recognized institution and qualifications to earn a salary of at least 1.5 times the national average. If you are self-employed, aim for a Work Permit for Freelancers.

A degree from a German institution will be a great advantage when applying for a work permit. And that is not the only reason you should pursue your degree in Germany.
