Eligibility: Teams of 2-5 students, ages 13-18, from around the world

Conrad Challenge 2020

There are historically two fundamental ways to think: inside the box and outside the box. The Conrad Challenge encourages students to enjoy the freedom of thinking like there simply is no box. To Get Your Genius On™, there should be no box.

Times such as these re-energize our long-standing mission: ignite and instil innovative spirits within those who hold the future of our world in their hands

The Conrad Challenge is an annual, multi-phase innovation and entrepreneurship competition that encourages young adults to participate in designing the future through purpose-driven education.

Each year, teams of 2-5 students, ages 13-18, from around the world create products and/or services to address some of the most pressing global and local challenges.

They become entrepreneurial problem-solvers, addressing challenging social, scientific and societal issues through utilizing their creativity and critical-thinking skills.

Develop solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems

Going into its 15th year, the mission remains the same: to design a sustainable future for our planet.

Participants work together to identify challenges and develop solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems in any of the following categories:

  • Aerospace & Aviation
  • Cyber-Technology & Security
  • Energy & Environment
  • Health & Nutrition
  • the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World with 2 special categories, and Oceans: The Plastic Problem.

Teams may submit in multiple categories if desired.

Challenge overview

  • In Round 1, students research global and local challenges within their chosen category. Then, teams create a product or service to address this challenge.
During this round, teams must effectively explain the real-world solution by completing the Investor Pitch tab detailing their idea, while also illustrating its viability as an innovative solution on the market.
  • In Round 2, teams develop a business plan outlining their innovation and create a strategy to introduce their product/service to market.
Submissions are reviewed by an esteemed group of industry experts in each category. Each entry is scored by at least 3 experts based on an established judging rubric that is detailed in the Student Guide.
  • Round 3: The Innovation Summit: April/May 2021
