For the 7th time in a row, PIRATE Summit gathers movers and shakers of the digital sector from all over the world in Cologne (Germany). Every single participant is carefully picked and selected to ensure a perfect crowd to create meaningful connections.
- House rules
The motivation, which is consistent with the vision that shaped the very first PIRATE Summit in 2011, is to always organize conferences that founders themselves would love to attend. Therefore, they have established some house rules which are indispensable a successful conference.
- The unique location
PIRATE Summit is not a “normal” conference – it is an event you never participated before. And to ensure the extraordinary, it takes place in one of Cologne’s most unique locations: Odonien – a scrapyard turned into an outdoor art gallery. It is the perfect pirate location and offers enough space for robots, fire, networking, and fun.
- The variety of networking formats
At PIRATE Summit it’s all about meaningful connections. Through various formats and activities, your personal networking experience will be ensured. Connecting the most bright people of the startup ecosystem has always been the goal of the conference, whether it be through dedicated 1on1 sessions, a speed dating or mentoring sessions for startups.
- The Burn – “Ceremony”
After a legendary day full of inspiration, motivation, and networking, you’ll be part of an extraordinary event: the wooden statue, based on an old Cologne Carnival tradition called “Nubbelverbrennung”, will be lit on fire on the first night right before the infamous party. Grab a bottle of rum and rethink your past experiences as an entrepreneur while watching the statue burn.

His knees are weak, palms are sweaty – no no…not that Eminem song. We’re talking about the founder pitching on the plank – out in the audience, beneath him/her a sea of hungry sharks. That’s what it’s like to pitch at PIRATE Summit.
When your startup is less than three years old, looking for funding and has a working prototype/product (bonus: revenues), walking the plank is highly recommended.
The Golden Treasure
Like last year, instead of giving out a cash prize to the winning startup of the “Walk-the-Plank” pitch competition, we will take them on a fully-paid trip to the startup capitals of the world: San Francisco and London or Berlin. And best of all: we’ll pre-arrange 1-on-1 meetings with the best investors in town.
