Baylor New Venture Competition 2019

The Baylor New Venture Competition is a multi-round business plan and elevator pitch competition hosted by the Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise at Baylor University.

Underwritten by an anonymous gift to Baylor University and the Hankamer School of Business, the competition promotes student entrepreneurship by showcasing student created, managed, and
owned ventures.

Student entrepreneurs from not-for-profit accredited universities across the globe are offered expert feedback, coaching, and a prize package of cash and crucial in-kind business support services, to launch and grow their ventures.

The competition is open to all students (undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate) or recently graduated alumni.

Eligibilities

  • Have 2 – 4 team members
  • Be current students (undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate) or have graduated May 2017 or later
  • Have at least one member that is a current full-time university student; undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate
  • Designate a point-of-contact person responsible for communication with competition organizers
  • Have team members that hold fundamental, equity-holding positions within the company and have a combined ownership of at least 25% of the founder’s equity in the company
  • Not have members on multiple teams in the competition
  • Be present during the entire competition and at the time of the prize presentations to be eligible for prizes

Competition prize package

Monetary and in-kind awards will be given to each team that makes it to the final round of the competition. Possible awards are as follow:

Elevator Pitch Competition:

  • 1st Place – $1,500 cash
  • 2nd Place – $1,000 cash
  • 3rd Place – $500 cash

Business Plan Competition:

First Place:

  • $50,000 Cash
  • 6 hours of free consultations by the LAUNCH ACP Workshop team, as well as access to online training courses provided by the Innovative Business Accelerator at the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative
  • 15 hours of IT/mobile/software consulting time provided by Renovatio Cloud Solutions
  • IP consulting and assistance services provided by Hulsey PC
    6 months free listing on the Texas Entrepreneur Networks funding portal, featuring access to the “TEN Campaign Program” knowledge base
  • 6 months of co-working space provided by the Addison TreeHouse, powered by The DEC
  • 1 year free server hosting and 1 year free cloud hosting provided by Limestone Networks
  • 1 hour free legal consulting provided by RWR Legal
  • Private Data Room access provided by V-Rooms
  • Branding/marketing strategy session provided by Four Columns Marketing
  • Brand identity package provided by Four Columns Marketing
  • Up to 4 hours of free pitch deck consultation by the Baylor Angel Network Student Analyst team
  • Up to 10 hours of free business consulting at JumpCelerator office in Downtown Dallas; 1 year of free business mentorship from JumpCelerator CEO; Access to JumpCelerator’s network of professional resources

Second Place:

  • $25,000 Cash
  • IP consulting and assistance services provided by Hulsey PC
  • 6 months free listing on the Texas Entrepreneur Networks unding portal, featuring access to the “TEN Campaign Program” knowledge base
  • 1 year free server hosting and 1 year free cloud hosting provided by Limestone Networks

Third Place:

  • $10,000 Cash
