Global Entrepreneurship Summer School 2020

GESS is a program of the Social Entrepreneurship Akademie organized in cooperation with six leading university-based entrepreneurship centres in Munich, Shanghai, Mexico City and Cape Town.

Join the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School (GESS) in Munich, Shanghai, Querétaro (Mexico) or Cape Town and experience a unique 7-day program where you will develop entrepreneurial solutions to solve global challenges.

GESS is where 140 university students come together to develop entrepreneurial solutions that meet the world’s biggest challenges.

In the spirit of promoting “Billion Euro Projects to take Climate Action”, you will work on the UN Sustainable Development Goals aiming to empower students to become young responsible leaders who create positive change in our society.

Solve the challenges caused by climate change!

At GESS, you will work in international and interdisciplinary teams on region-specific problems to develop your own idea that presents both a sustainable impact on society and a self-sustaining, profitable business model.

Throughout GESS, your team will be partnered with a coach who will provide you with feedback and assistance on any technical questions, like how to test your idea with the community on-site. A series of interactive input sessions by renowned entrepreneurs will provide you with complementary knowledge.

At the end of the course, you and your team will pitch your idea to a wide public audience – and you should definitely not miss the celebration afterwards!

Who should apply

All undergraduate and graduate students, aged 18 – 35, from all fields (e.g., design, computer science, business economics, humanities, social sciences) are welcome to apply.

You must be enrolled at a university at some point during the calendar year. For example, if you are only enrolled until February, you can still apply even though you will not be enrolled in September. This enrollment policy also applies to MBA and PhD students.

You are the right person for GESS if you have the following qualities:

• You think and act entrepreneurially.
• You are deeply motivated to find answers to the most challenging problems in our global society.
• You are committed to peace and to acting in a responsible manner.
• You are a strong team player, open-minded and interested in working in international and interdisciplinary teams.
• You have a strong proficiency in English.
• Ideally, you are engaged in student initiatives or community efforts.

140 students will be selected to attend the program in Munich, Querétaro (Mex.), Shanghai or Cape Town depending on the location you have chosen

Due to the high number of applications received every year, all applications will go through a very strict – but fair – selection process.

You will receive either an invitation or a rejection letter via e-mail by the end of April 2020.
