1. Reporters Fellowship Program for Journalists in Europe

Eligibility: Professional, freelance or staff journalists who work for media outlets (print, broadcast, Web, or cross-media) in one of the program countries are welcome to apply.
Amount: Up to €5,000

2. Weatherhead Initiative on Global History Fellowships 2016-2017

The Weatherhead Initiative on Global History (WIGH) at Harvard University identifies and supports outstanding scholars whose work responds to the growing interest in the encompassing study of global history.


3. Transatlantic Media Fellowships 2016

Eligibility: Journalists working in any medium who offer new perspectives on transatlantic policy debates, who come from diverse communities, and who may not otherwise have the opportunity to conduct transatlantic research.
Amount: The Heinrich Böll Foundation will cover travel and accommodation costs within reason for five days of research in the E.U. or the U.S., subject to final approval of individual travel plans and an honorarium of $1,000.

Location: European Union (for American journalists) and in the United States (for European journalists)

The Transatlantic Media Fellowships give American and European journalists the opportunity to conduct research in the European Union (for American journalists) and in the United States (for European journalists). The fellowships are an integral component of the Transatlantic Dialogue Program on Democracy and Social Policy, promoting a vibrant discourse between U.S. and European societies on the shared challenges to our democracies and on the shared values of the transatlantic partnership. The fellowship is open to journalists in any medium eager to report on one of two issues areas: “Migration and Integration” and “Digital Societies”.


4. The Wall Street Journal internships

Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue a career in journalism. ALL candidates must already have the appropriate legal authorization and papers to allow them to work within the EU
Dates: The summer internships generally take place over June, July and August, 2016
Location: The Wall Street Journal bureaus across Europe (GBR-LONDON FRA-PARIS ESP-MADRID ITA-MILANO)

5. The McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism

Eligibility: Open to anyone with at least five years professional experience in journalism.
Amount: Award grants of $5,000 a month for one to three months.

The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism, a new initiative established at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism, began offering Fellowships to accomplished business journalists in the summer of 2014. Seven veteran journalists were awarded grants of up to $15,000 in the first year of the McGraw Fellowship; three more were named in July, 2015.


6. The German-Dutch Journalists’ Bursary

Eligibility: Dutch and German Journalists who regularly contribute as freelance journalists or writers to German or Dutch media.
Amount: an award of 3,000 Euro from IJP
Dates: Intensive Language Course: Start February 20, 2016; Fellowship: Start March 2, 2016 in the Netherlands; Final Meeting: May 8th – 11, 2016 in Berlin
Location: the Netherlands and Germany

The German-Dutch journalists’ bursary programme was founded as the second IJP bursary in 1994. Every year it gives up to six Dutch and six German journalists an opportunity for a working visit in another country.


7. MA Multimedia Journalism Scholarships at University of Kent in UK 2015

Eligibility: Open for International Students
Cost: The scholarships will cover 50% of tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for 1 year
Location: University of Kent, United Kingdom

University of Kent is inviting applications for MA multimedia journalism scholarships. Candidates must have formally applied and hold an offer for the MA. The scholarships will cover 50% of tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for 1 year. The application deadline is October 5, 2015.


8. The Knight Visiting Nieman Fellowships

Deadlines: Knight Visiting Nieman Fellowships: October 31, 2015; International Fellowships: December 1, 2015; U.S. Fellowships: January 31, 2016 | Apply here
Eligibility: Both U.S. and international candidates are invited to apply
Dates: Academic year 2016-2017
Location: Harvard University, USA

The Knight Visiting Nieman Fellowships at Harvard offer short-term research opportunities to individuals interested in working on special projects designed to advance journalism in some new way.


9. John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships

Eligibility: US and international applicants

The program is focused on journalism innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership. Fellows will have the opportunity to draw on the richness of knowledge and expertise at Stanford and Silicon Valley.


10. Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship

Deadline: October 13, 2015 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time | Apply here
Eligibility: U.S. citizens of all ages and from all backgrounds are eligible to apply

The Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship was launched in 2013 as a new component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. It provides opportunities for U.S. citizens to participate in an academic year of overseas travel and digital storytelling in one, two, or three countries on a globally significant theme.


11. ACFJ Fellowships for MA Journalism

Eligibility: Journalists from Asian countries
Amount:  Full grants cover tuition fees, books, and travel (international and domestic) and living expenses for the on-campus sessions.
Location: Core courses are taught using a fusion of online and on-campus methods. Electives and Master’s Projects take place entirely online, while the cognate courses are taken on-campus.

A distance learning program designed for Asian working journalists who seek to develop and leverage the Asian perspective in their work, intensify their commitment to journalism’s ideals, and be at the cutting-edge in a global, technologically sophisticated environment.


BONUS: New Media Writing Prize 2015 Competition

Eligibility: It is an international competition and anyone can apply.
Location: Bournemouth University, UK

The New Media Writing Prize showcases exciting and inventive stories that integrate a variety of formats, platforms, and digital media. This international prize is now in its 6th year. The prize encourages and promotes the best in new media writing and is leading the way toward the future of the ‘written’ word and storytelling. In the past five years, the NMWP has attracted entries from the very best and most innovative writers in the field.
